The first snowfall of the season blanketed Cushing's campus earlier this week, a visual reminder of the change in seasons. Between sledding and snowballs, students are gearing up for final exams and presentations. A group of student proctors posted delightful motivational posters around campus, and tomorrow, as part of our Speaker Series, we are hosting Aaron Golub, the first legally blind NCAA Division I football player, who will talk about overcoming adversity.
Between the start of the winter sports season, the planning of holiday celebrations, and the coming end of the term, there is a lot of activity on campus. It is rewarding to see our community embracing these moments, and pushing forward together with joy and curiosity. On a personal note, I recently returned from a trip to Asia with my wife Karen, where we were warmly received through more than 80 meetings and receptions with current and prospective Cushing families and alumni throughout Korea, Vietnam, China, Singapore, and Thailand.
At the end of our trip, His Majesty The King of Bhutan, Cushing Academy Class of 1999, graciously welcomed us on a visit where we met with educators, students, and leaders who embody Bhutan’s deep commitment to learning and to its culture. We had the opportunity to visit several schools and institutions, including Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School, the Choki Traditional Art School (where we had an art lesson), the Royal University of Bhutan, the Royal Textile Academy, and the Druk Gyalpo’s Institute at Dungkar Dzong.
The trip was a reminder of the strong connections we build at Cushing, and the lasting impact that our Journeys have on members of our community. In this season of gratitude and celebration, I am deeply grateful for these connections that bind us together.
Students see who can wrap a present the fastest during this week's All School Assembly. The Senior class reigns victorious at this holiday themed Minute to Win It competition. > Instagram Reel
