This stretch of the school year — where we transition from fall to winter — is one of my favorites. Cushing is abuzz with energy. Classes are deep into long-term projects, seniors are thoughtfully preparing college applications (and faculty are supporting them with heartfelt recommendations), our fall athletic teams are making their final pushes for the post-season, and our theatre, dance, and music departments are showcasing their work in creative performances for the Academy.
This week is Spirit Week. To cap off the fall season, students are hosting a pep rally, daily thematic dressing challenges (like “Twin Day”), and FoCo, our student-designed “faux homecoming” dance. Next week is also the beginning of winter afternoon programming. Students will begin their new winter activities, and those involved in athletics or the winter musical (Annie), will participate in organized tryouts and auditions.
All in all, it’s a joyful flurry of activity leading into Thanksgiving Break — filled with the dynamic rhythms that mark a rewarding and fulfilling Cushing Journey.
No one does Halloween quite like Cushing! Our Halloweekend, which includes pumpkin carving, a haunted Heslin, and the annual Halloween Dance, brings students together for a night of costumes, candy, and fun. Check out some of the amazing costumes in our Flickr album!
To be or not to be...or something like that! This year's fall play takes a fun, comedic twist on Shakespeare's most well-known literature in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] [Again].
Thanksgiving Break is coming, and Cushing offers buses going to and returning from Logan Airport & Boston Copley Plaza for $45 each way and New York, Greenwich CT, Fairfield CT & Hartford CT for $80 each way.
(You must have a Cushing email to submit the shuttle bus sign-up form.)
Girls* in Arts Leadership
Cushing hosted students from 5 schools at the Girls* in Arts Leadership Summit last Monday. Professional artists from a range of disciplines led interactive workshops, empowering and equipping students with knowledge and tools to grow as creative and confident learners and leaders.

It's the Fall Play Debut this weekend! After watching, catch a flick at the Gardner Cinema, or start looking for FoCo outfits with a trip to the Pheasant Lane Mall. Penguin Madness, the celebratory start for winter basketball, is an event you won't want to miss!
