On the way to the top of Mount Monadnock, students encounter a false summit. It happens very late in the hike. After students have climbed about 3,000 feet, they scale a rocky incline and make their way onto a large plateau with amazing views of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. At this point, many think they’ve made it to the top… only to discover there is still more to go to get to the summit.
How students respond in this moment is always telling — and, almost universally, it’s a moment where our Cushing community comes together and pushes each other to new heights.
As we make our way to the end of September, we come to a similar plateau in our school year. The festivities and traditions that mark the start of the school year — Dorm Olympics, Community Lunch, Mountain Day — begin to make way for the normal ebb and flow of life at Cushing. As morning temperatures become brisk and the maple trees start to turn, our real work continues in earnest. Academic courses have gotten into a groove, fall athletics are in the heart of their schedules, and the routine patterns and rhythms of the Cushing experience are all pushing us ahead on our Journeys.
We have set a tremendous tone and pace for the start of the school year. I'm looking forward to seeing where our Journeys lead us. Roll Pens!
We challenged each Advisory to celebrate this year’s theme of Creativity by taking a group selfie. Congratulations to Mr. Kublbeck’s advisory, who won the challenge and earned Dunkin’ treats for the entire group!
